Description

The creation of spaces that promote relationships, interaction and well-being lies at the heart of this project in Asiago. The redevelopment of the retirement home and the former Caserma Riva barracks complex provides an opportunity to transform Piazza d’Armi into a vibrant, accessible space where history and modernity coexist. The new square will be a multidisciplinary space with areas dedicated to play, sports and socialising, where people of all ages can meet and experience the city together.

The former stables have been transformed into flexible spaces housing warehouses, exhibition areas, greenhouses and refreshment zones. These spaces offer meeting places and shared activities for the retirement home’s residents and the city’s students. Inside, the spaces have been redesigned to accommodate new rooms and larger, more flexible communal areas. A panoramic lift enhances the surrounding landscape. The use of wood and circles as unifying features, as well as visual openings, creates continuity between the interior and exterior, promoting comfort and socialising.

The project incorporates sustainability principles, such as drainage flooring, the maintenance and enhancement of green spaces, rainwater harvesting, LED lighting and solar thermal and photovoltaic panels, to make the structure efficient and resilient. The outdoor and indoor spaces are connected harmoniously, creating an open and inclusive complex with a strong identity where architecture, nature and community coexist and enrich each other.
